Welcome to Modran!

Modran is located 12km south of Bijeljina on a major regional road that stretches 4.5km between Janja and Suvo Polje. Modran is part of the municipality of Bijeljina which lies on the flat rich planes of Semberija. Modran is divided up into parts: Kozluchani, Srednji Modran, Donja Mala, Obadice and Bukova Greda. There are 2 rivers that run through Modran, river janja, and the small river modran. The population census in 1991 showed Modran had 1411 inhabitants. 1398 were of Serbs, 2 were Croats, and 11 were of other nationalities. Today the municipality of Bijeljina has 125 000 inhabitants making Bijeljina the second biggest city in the Republic of Srpska, second behind the Capital Banja Luka.

Semberija is a region bound by two major rivers of Sava and Drina and the Majevica mountains which resembles a triangle. Semberija is one of the richest agricultural areas in the country. The climate is similar to the rest of central Europe with hot summers, cool springs and autumn, and cold winters with considerable snowfall. The municipality of Bijeljina occupies an area of 73.236 ha. The city of Bijeljina is located in the heart of Semberija, 6 km from the border of Serbia, 40 km from Croatia and 35km from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Gratitude to its geographic position, Bijeljina is a main trading center of Republic of Srpska. You cannot count how many shops and companies there are because there are just so many which is why many refer Bijeljina as being “Serbian Monte Carlo” or “Serbian Hong Kong”.

The people of Semberija are of Orthodox religion. Semberija contains many beautiful churches and monasteries, the oldest one being the monastery Tavna.  Modran has its own church “Saint Petra and Pavla” which is currently under construction.
